“Cultivate your enthusiasm like
an exotic plant.” - Leon Daudet
Enthusiasm is like a fire that burns all obstacles
in its path and ignites an explosion of an activity. Enthusiasm
allows you to be creative and to achieve something. Education and
luck can help but they are not enough. It is a force that empowers
your entire being towards a fixed goal. Once you have set the goal,
you throw yourself, body and mind, into achieving it, and you eventually
succeed.
Enthusiastic Men and Women in the Annals of History
It is enthusiasm that allows all great men to accomplish
their tasks. Abraham Lincoln only had one year of primary school
before he got into the White House. But the enthusiasm that motivated
him smashed all obstacles in his path. Rembrandt dreamed of writing
his name in the annals of posterity. He was very fortunate to meet
someone who was so impressed with his initial drawings and encouraged
him to pursue his ambition in life.
Enthusiasm has no age limit, no sex, and no special
conditions.
Joan of Arc was 19 when she expelled the English armies
from France.
Alexander the Great led the Greeks to victory at the age of 20.
Napoleon Bonaparte had conquered Italy at 25.
De Gaulle was President of France at 76.
Doge of Venice led an army at the age of 92.
Daniel Webster learned 17 languages between the ages of 50-70!
All these men and women left their mark on posterity
because of their intelligence stimulated by enthusiasm. Their ideas
introduced them to a series of actions that in turn led them to
success. Each new success increased their enthusiasm. They all applied
their best qualities to achieving their goals.
Not all of us aspire for great achievement in the
fields of business, politics, literature, or art. However, we have
something to do in life, something much more than just living. We
have a role to play. We are responsible to the society in which
we live. We have something do for our lives. Each one of us should
be able to say, “Humanity is a little better because I lived.”
The professional can be an extraordinary person by
being an enthusiastic person in the manner you relate to others.
You can be vivacious and expressive. You can be stimulating to others
and have an infectious personality. You can use enthusiasm as a
method of adapting to people.
How to Recognize an Enthusiastic Person at Work
You can recognize an enthusiastic person by their
confident walk, their open smile, their determination at work, and
their intense curiosity. They are self-confident, very sociable,
and highly motivated using their communication tool. Enthusiastic
persons at the workplace can be described as follows:
An enthusiastic person has tomorrow in view.
An enthusiastic person is exuberant and vivacious.
He sees no clouds on the dullest days.
An enthusiastic person makes people happy. As a result
he draws them into his aura of personal magic.
An enthusiastic person is never personal.
An enthusiastic person looks at you in the eye and
simply expresses himself.
An enthusiastic person is stimulating and infectious
and if you remain in his presence it isn’t long before you
are acting the same way.
An enthusiastic person shares and compares his experiences
with others.
An enthusiastic person talks briefly about his hobbies.
An enthusiastic person says just enough to “draw
out” the other person. He determines their interests, which
may be one and the same with his.
An enthusiastic person at no time speaks negatively
of anyone.
Every person has the potential for greatness. The
enthusiastic person releases this from the restraints of banality,
mediocrity, and routine. An enthusiastic person has the power to
influence others. An enthusiastic person exerts great influence.
We are drawn to such people.
Our own influence depends on how much enthusiasm we
have. Feeling superfluous and useless is the worst thing that can
happen to anyone. We become unhappy when our talents are not wanted,
when they waste inside us, and when we bury them for fear of being
rejected. Each of us should somehow mark his/her passage on this
earth. by living enthusiastically. By inundating our words and actions
with this positive energy, others will naturally be drawn to follow
us especially in our places of work.
Your enthusiasm can help motivate others to do something
worthwhile and extraordinary. You can make others want to understand
the secret of your happiness. Through your example, you can help
them discover the happiness that you yourself are starting to experience
and make them want to follow you as a role model. Through your enthusiasm,
you can make them understand what you yourself have been able to
comprehend. Through your sociability, you can encourage them to
follow your example.
Words on Enthusiasm from the Wise
1. “ Nothing great was ever achieved without
enthusiasm.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
2. “ The success of any great person is due
to intelligence, but above all to enthusiasm.” Dr.
Pauchet
3. “ All great historical movements are triumphs
of enthusiasm over opposing forces.” Ralph
Waldo Emerson
4. “ Nothing can be done without a minimum of
enthusiasm.” Voltaire
5. “ Enthusiasm is the thing which makes the
world go round. Without its driving power, nothing worth doing has
ever been done. Love, friendship, religion, altruism, devotion to
career or hobby – all these and most of the other things in
life, are forms of enthusiasm.” Robert
H. Schauffler
All of us need to be enthusiastic. Without enthusiasm,
you become old at 25! With it, age makes no difference and difficulties
vanish. Enthusiasm means having faith in life, faith in your abilities,
faith in happiness, and faith in other people. Enthusiasm is a skill
that can be developed and nurtured. An enthusiastic person has the
power to influence others.
Unlock the power of your enthusiasm now and
be the best you can be!
